FISHING ACCESS
FYilljames Camp Area As reported in the Taupo Times of Aprii 15, the Taupo Rod and Gun Club have been advised by the Hon. S. W. Smith, in repiy to representations made by the Club, that the Lands Department had instructed that cattle stops were to be provided on the aecess track leading tc* the Fulljames Camp area on the Waikato River, below the Aratiatia Rapids. On Fridav last, April 22, the area was visited by Mr S. A. McNamara ( Wildlife Conservator ) and Mr Gavin Brown (Lands Department). The matter was mentioned in Parliament 011 Thursday, April 21, wlien Mr S. W. Smith (Minister for Internal Affairs) , replying to a question from Mr R. Boord, M.P. for Rotorua, said that discussions were being lield to determine liow temporary vehicle access for anglers could be provided quickly to the Tauhara Block tronting the river. The land development brancli of the Lands Department was faced with very serious difficulties to hold and control the partieular type cattle wliich were released on those areas and which played an important part in the development of land, replied the Minister. Cattle-stops would not hold such cattle and gates were as often as not left open. The Lands Department was anxious to give anglers access along the whole river frontage. Permanent vehicle access will be provided when 1 this land (Tauhara Block) is subdlvided. At present there was full access for anglers on foot. Discussions were now proceeding as to how the vehicle access could be provided quickly.
