TAUPO COUNTRYWOMEN'S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING

The Taupo Branch of the Countrywomen's Institute held its annual general meeting on Wednesday afternoon, March 16, the President, Mrs J. T. Taylor, presiding. A number of apologies were received from . members unable to attend. Visitors present were Mrs London, president of the Rotorua District Federation, and Mrs Gibbs and Mrs Gardener, of the Kiorenui C.W.I. Sprays were presented to the visitors, to members with birthdays in January, February and March, and to Mrs Glass, Treasurer, and Mrs King, Convener of the Garden Circle. Mrs Glass presented bouquets to Mrs Taylor and Mrs A. M. Tierney, retiring President and Secretary respectively. Mrs Stott and Mrs Murphy were appointed delegates to attend the annual Council Meeting of the Rotorua District Federation, to be held in Rotorua in April. At this meeting Mrs Stott and Miss E. Rickit are to be presented with Iong service badges. The motto for March was "Be prepared to serve." The Roll Call was "How to revive a fainting person." Mrs Stowe presented the annual report of the Gardening Circle. Mrs London gave a talk on the work of the C.W.I. movement, and dealt with the Dominion Councillors Conference held in Napier in February, and the life and work of Miss. > Jerome Spencer, founder of the movement in New Zealand. Mrs London also referred to the fact that the Rotorua Institute, which she had formed, was the thousandth Institute. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — - President, Mrs W. King; Treasurer, Mrs Glass; Secretary, Miss McCly•mont; Committee, Mesdames Davis, Gradwell, Potter, Murphy, R. McMillan, A. M. Tierney, Miss Rickit. • The points prizes for the year's competitions Were won as follows: — Handwork, Mrs A. Wilson; Cooking, Mrs Murphy; Best Bloom and Spray, Mrs Murphy; Best Vegetable, Mrs Murphy. i |x v
