"TO MAHE THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME" During the hearing, at the Taupo Court on Friday, November 26, of cases involving charges under the heavy trafhc licensing regulations the Magistrate, Mr W. A. Harlow, S.M., stated that it was desirable that the prosecutor should have details available of previous convictions, if any, for similar offences, as it was the policy of the Court to increase the penalty in cases where an offence was repeated. It sometimes appeared that in such cases as the carriage of loads in excess of axle weights payment of a fine was regarcled as something in the way of a license. But no person cottld come to the Coutt and say it was cheap.er to pay a fine than take out thn fioc^sary
