CARNIVAL ACTIVITIES
Baby Show And Dancing. Two popular items at the Citizens Queen Garden Fete at M t F. Carr's residence, Nukuhau, last Saturday, were a baby show, and children 's dancing by the pupils of Miss L. Manning. Entrants in the baby show were Branden Green, Kareri Morris, , Glynis Mulholland, Mary Ann McDonald, Mary Lyn Marlow, John Taylor and Murray Taylor, the first prize going to John Taylor son of Mr and Mrs Godfrey Taylor. The following girls presented a dancing item: — P. Casson, R. Yin, P. Baker, M. Geoghan, J. Galbraith and R. Redwood. This was followed by a highland dance performed by M. Geoghan, to bagpipe music by Mr Keith Mead. ❖ * ❖ Saturday Is Gala Day. Arrangements are well in hand for the! Sports Queen Gala Day tomorrow, Saturday December 4. The southern end of the Domain, next the Lake front road, will be the centre of attraction and the programme is to commence at 10.30 a.m. With a number of teams entered and prize money of £30 the tug-of-war contest is expected to attract much attention. The Crusaders, Taupo's marching girls' team will give a marching display at 2 p.m. The Miss Taupo competition for girls under 8, commences at > 2.15 p.m. and is to be foilowed by the Mh Taupo competition for boys of similar age. There will be children's races during the morning. * ❖ ❖ Wheelbarrow Races Tonight. The Sports Queen Committee are staging another wheelbarrow derby tonight, Friday, in Tongariro Street at 7.15 p.m. Post entries will be received and the event will be run in heats. Judging by interest in the previous wheelbarrow contest the event should attract considerable interest. Prizes will be offered. ❖ ❖ ❖ Talent Quesf Finalists. The Maori Queen Committee's very popular talent quest concerts have now reached the stage when the finalists in the present series are to appear. They will do so at Rickit's Hall on Sunday night next December 5. Competitiors will be present from as far afield as Te Rangiita, Murupara and Putaruru, in addition to those from Taupo and nearer centres. The show will start at 8.15 p.m. as there is a long programme. A box plan for seat bookings is available at the MidIsland Milk Bar.
