TAUHARA RURAL FIRE DISTRICT
1954-55 FIRE SEASON THE above Fire District, constituted under the Forest and Rural Fires Act, 1947, comprises an area of 55,000 acres in Taupo County, bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the ten-mile peg on the Taupo-Napier State Highway toward the south-west by the centre of the Taupo-Napier State Highway to the boundary of the Taupo Town District; toward the west and south generally by the Taupo Town District to the Waikato River; toward the north-east generally by thej right bank of the Waikato River (passing Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids, Afforestation Proprietary, Ltd., pine plantation) and toward the north-east and south-east generally by the boundaries of the Kaingaroa Fire District. The attention of District and Taupo Residents, Fishermen, Pighunters, Deer Stalkers and District Visitors is drawn to the following:A closed fire season has been proclaimed in the district from October 1, 1954 to April 30, 1955. During this period it is an offence to light a fire in the open air anywhere in the district without the written permit from the undersigned Fire Officers. Any person discovering an unattended fire in the district is under a statutory duty to do his best to put the fire* out, and to report the fire to the nearest Fire Officer. It is an offence under the Act to drop or throw matches, cigarette butts, pipel ashes or any other | smouldering substance on any land ! at any time without wholly extinguishing the smouldering substance before leaving the spot. It is also, an offence to enter the pine plantation of Afforestation Proprietary, Ltd., without the written permission of the Manager of the Company. An offence under the Act is punishable by imprisonment not exceeding one month or a fine not exceeding £100. Dated October 1, 1954. VIVIAN T. FAIL, Principal Fire Officer. A. C.
