PUBLIC OPINION
BOROUGH COUNCIL AND LOCAL MANUFACTURERS Sir, — Further to the letter published in your issue of 30th July headed "Borough Council and Local Manufacturers," I wish to state that I was not the author of the letter, nor anyone else connected with Taupo Concrete Products Ltd., and in fact I am not aware of the identity of the writer. This is not to say that I disagree with the complaint made. I agree entirely. As it happens, shortly after the arrival of the posts in question, the writer approached Council members on the subject, and received an assurance that the Company would be considered when further concrete products were required. With regard to Mr Story's statement that the posts were purchased from a local businessman who was until recently the only one in town stocking them, it is sufficient for me to state that on the 30th October, 1953, the Compan3/ wrote to the Taupo Borough Council, stating that a Manufacturing Organisation was being established with a view to the production locally of concrete products which had hitherto been freighted into Taupo at relatively high freight rates, and stating that the Company would be pleased to have the opportunity of quoting for any products which the Council might require. This letter was not acknowledged. Furthermore, the Company has advertised posts for sale in the Advertising columns of the "Taupo Times" for months. I am, etc.,
T. M.
KENT,
Director, Taupo Concrete Products Ltd.
