FAREWELL SOCIAL AT WAITETOKO
I A very pleasant social gathering took place at Waitetoko Hall on Saturday, February 20th to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Vic Flight and family on the eve of their departure for Te Aroha, where Mr and Mrs Flight have taken over the lease of %he Te Aroha Hot Springs Hotel. During the evening Maori action songs by members of the Youth Club provided enjoyable entertainment. There were several farewell presentations. On behalf of the Maori people Mr Kiko Wikatene handed the guests of the evening a parting gift in traditional style and spoke regretfully of the loss of respected friends.N Mr Eric Jones presented a farewell token on behalf of the [ Te Rangi-ita Gun Club with an appropriate speech. The Youth Club, represented by Miss Julie Jones, also made a presentation, Miss Jones wishing Mr Tony Flight, who was president of the Youth Club, and his brothers every success in their new life at Te Aroha. On behalf of the residents of Motuopo and surrounding districts Mr Charles Lane also presented a parting gift in a valedictory speech. For himself and his family Mr Flight responded in a speech in which he expressed thanks for the various much appreciated tokens of farewell and goodwill, for the hospitality dispensed on this occasion, and emphasised his regret at parting from their midst. Supper was then servea, and the proceedings ended with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
