This silver birch, growing near the Borough. Council Offices, Taupo, is typical of the many trees of this species in Taupo. The first Taupo silver birches appear to have been planted in the Domain, and in the School grounds, where beautiful speciimens may be seen. The Taupo Horticultural and Beautifying Society some time ago advocated theiir eminent suitability for Taupo conditions. Usually easy to establish, they grow fairly rapidly, and in winter, when their leaves are shed! the silvery sheen of their bark and the delicate tracery of their twigs and branches provide a beauty not less than that of their summer foliage. Year-round beauty, and ease of establishment should commend the silver birch to all who appreciate the beauty, of trees.
