TAUPO BEAT NGAKURU

Ngakuru visited Taupo for a return game on December 5th, the home team winning on the first innings. The visiting captain, Carseldine, scored a steady half century in about 80 minutes before lunch, but his only assistance came from Edge, who compiled 27 in quick time. Gordon Sutherland of Waitahanui, playing his first game for the Taupo Club, batted brightly for 53 before he was run out. Forster, with a steady 30, and Woodward, Mclsaac and Ward scored fast enough to enable Taupo to declare with a lead of 64.

Ngakuru had 40 minutes batting left and in that time lost 8 wickets for 21 runs, but the two first innings top-scorers had still to be dismissed. Bowling for Taupo, Forster reaped his usual harvest of wickets, 4 in the first and two in the second innings. Stebbing, after his first expensive over, was very steady indeed. Jack Smith also bowled well in both innings. Errol Smith collected two quick wickets in the second innings. Sutherland showed good form behind the stumps.
