CRICKET NOTES
KAINGAROA BEATEN Taupo batted first when the Club visited Kaingaroa on December 6, and with 4 wickets down before fifty was on the board on a perfect wicket the position did not' look too happy for the visitors. Beale and Frank McKean then took the total into three figures. The former played a particularly well-judged innings. McKean too picked the right ball tg hit ana his 33 included some nice strokes on the off. Forster and Woodward bowlea well for Taupo in the opening overs and got four of the home team out for 18. Then Rowseh proved to be a rock that the TaupG bowlers could not shift and was assisted by two of his colleagues in partnerships of 30 runs each. Jack Smith was responsible for breaking both these stands, catching McKay off Forster when the score was 48 for four wickets and finally catching Rowsell off his own bowling when the home team needed only 24 runs to win. The difficulty that Kaingaroa found in handling the Taupo bowling can be judged from the fact that they scored their runs at barely half the pace of Taupo's innings. Jack Smith's left arm bowling was particularly steady, his eleven overs costing only 20 runs.
