TAUPO C.A.S.
ANNUAL MEETING HELB The Annual General Meeting of ihe Taupo Branch, Community |Arts Service, was held in Rickit's. | Hali on Wednesday, December 2nd, the president, Mr E. F. Wright, presiding, In reporting on the entertainments which had been produeed in Taupo during the year, the Chairman stressed two points, one was the need for all old members to renew their subscriptions and for others who had enjoyed the shows to join up also as members. The second was the need for more residents to offer to billet members of | the visiting companies. This was a great help, for the amount of guarantee required for each show was decreased in proportion to the number of artists for whom billets were found. The policy had been to keep. admission prices as low as possible consistent with avoiding making a loss. On productions of the year an over-all nett profit had been made of £14/3/8, after a profit of £15 on Somerset Maugham's play "The Circle." Half the profit went to the Adult Education Centre, ! Auckland, who provided the plays, and half to the Local Organisation. Some funds must be kept in hand in case of a loss on any show. The Committee hoped later to be able to buy sorne "props" for the stage of the new Memorial Hall. The Chairman referred sympathetically to the fact that Mrs J. R. Osborne, secretary, had had to relinquish her duties as a result of ill-health. Mrs N. A. Duthie had meantime been carrying on as act-ing-s'ecretary. The election of officers and committee for the ensuing year was held, Mr E. F. Wright being elected president, and Mr N. A. Duthie, auditor. The election of a secretary was left to be dealt with later by the. Committee. The new Committee is as follows: — Mesdames W. H. Thomas, G. Sutherland, T. Price, H. J. Peacocke, Fooks, W. H. Kent, Messrs. E. S. West, C. R. Les- * lie, J. C. Kellett, T. Curham, Miss Hobie, Mrs A. J. Buckleigh.
Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Osborne, secretary, Mrs Duthie, aCting secretary, and to Mr Duthie, auditor. It was decided that the membership subscription, which entitles to preferential bookings for all shows, be five shillings, as last year.
