SATURDAY CLOSING
Sir, — It is with amazement that I read of the decision to close business premises at Taupo on Saturday. This definitely must be a setback to the town as a holiday resort and will certainly drive away hundreds of week-end campers and visitors. I know personally of many people who come to Taupo for the week-end shopping from as far afield as National Park and surrounding districts. This vote should have only been taken among the business community themselves not among the residents of Taupo who can shop any day during the week, and who have now derived any visitors or outlying district worker's from being able to shop on Saturdays. I am, etc.,
Taupo.
A. J.

(NOTE: — With regard to the poll taken on the question of the day to be observed as the weekly closing day in Taupo, the relevant statute provides that such a poll shall be decided by votes of the electors of the Borough. The poll was taken as the result of a petition presented to the Council signed by not less than ten per cent of the electors, in accordance with tfie provisions of the; statute. — Editor).
