TRIBAL ELDER DIES

TE PIJIA HOKO PATENA The death occurred at Waihi, Lake Taupo, on Tuesday, October 13th, of Te Puia Hoko Patena (Mrs Runga Raukura), an elder of the Tuwharetoa tribe. Mrs Raukura took an active part in tribal affairs and her wise counsel was highly regarded. She is survived by her husband, three sons and three daughters. Her eldest son, Keepa, was killed in action in the Middle East in the Second World War. Mrs Raukura was closely related to the T$ Heuheu family, the respective heads of which have for many generations been the paramount chiefs of ITgati-Tuwharetoa. '
