ELECTION NOTES

VOTING PROCEDURE Certain classes of voters are> entitled to record postal votes at | Borough Elections even though they may be unable to attend at a polling booth. Those so entitled must have their names on the roll, and be unable to attend the poll through illness or infirmity, or have religious objections to voting on*the day set for the poll, or be travelling on the day of the poll under conditions precluding them from attending the poll. Those wishing to avail themselves of this provision must obtain the necessary forms from the Returning Officer, Taupo Town Board Office. Such forms ore now available. After the voting papers have been duly dealt with by the voter they must be sent back to the Returning Officer before the close I of the poll on the day of the election. Any voter wishing to use this method of vojting should make early application to the Returning Officer and ensure that they are entitled to do so.

Method of Voting. The ballot papers have full instructions printed at the top, followed by a list of candidates iii alphabetical order. The voter must place a cross in the square opposite the names of the candidates he wishes to vote for. He may vote for as many candidates as he wishes up to a maximum number of eight. If more \than eight candidates are marked with crosses the voting paper will be informal. Nothing whatever may be written on the voting paper. Should a voter inadvertently spoil his paper he may return it to the Returning Officer and obtain a fresh paper. Polling hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st. Election Notices. It is an offence, carrying a fine not exceeding £20, to make any public demonstration having reference to the poll during the hours in which the poll is being taken, whether by means of living figures, effigies, paintings, placards or other like means. It is also an offence to make any statement referring to the poll at any time on pollir.g day before the close of the poll by means of a loud speaker.
