COMMITTEE APPOINTED The Taupo Town Board, at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 20, accepted an offer made by a number of residents intei-ested in the Public Library to assist in the management of the Library. The matter was introduced by the reading of a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Town Board, Mr N. A. Duthie. In his letter Mr Duthie stated that at a meeting of residents concern had been expressed lest the Library be discontinued. It had been the unanimous opjnion of those present that closing of the Library would be a retrograde step, inconsistent with the growth of the town, and after discussion it had been decided to make recommendations to the Town Board. Accordingly those present had formed themselves into a Committee which now offered its services to the Board in assisting to manage the Library.

Recommendations of Committee In doing so, the Committee made the following recommendations: (1) That the Library be continued for at least another twelve months. (2) That the formation of the Committee be approved. (3) That the Committee be responsible for the selection of new books. (4) That the Committee be responsible for the liling of books when returned by subscribers and for arranging the books in alphabetical order of authofs within - each section of the Library. (6) That ihe amount «tanding to the credit of the Library Account at the end of each fmaneial year be made availabie for library purposes, especially the purchase of new books, during the following year. (7) That sign nosts be erected in the Camping Grounds and on the Post Office Corner directing the public to the Library. (8) That after the expiration of twelve months consideration be given to the appointment of a part time Lihrarian. The members of the Committee were Mesdames N. A. Duthie, W. B. Orr, S. Palmer, H. E. r Shepherd, Howard Thomas, G. Tuck, Misses Eely, Fleury, Lehuray and Mi N. A. Duthie. It was mentioned that | the amount standing to the credit of the Library Account was £386, hui that a credit balance was only in existence as a re&ult of the Library rate struck ( previously, the income frorn subscriptions and library fees alone having been msufficient in the past to meet costs.
