THE CORONATION

jQURING this historic week of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, the people of Taupo-nui-a-Tia, in common with their fellow citizens, have joiried in expressions of joyous loyalty both to the Crown and to the person of Her Majesty. The occasion has been one that has emphasised the essentiai unity of our Maori and pakeha people, united in a brotherhood that embraees the still w.ider eommunity - in - diversity of the Commonwealth. In over eleven hundred years the British monarchy has seen but one previous Queen Elizabeth, and it is an auspicious omen that that first Elizabeth has given her name to one of the greatest periods in the history of our people. For New: Zealand the Coronation has a speeial historic significance, in that for the first time our Sovereign has been acknowledged, in Her Majesty's titles, as Queen of New Zealand. Ir the records of future history that point will bear its due significance, emphasising as it does both our independence of status and our indissoluble spiritual eommunity with the Commonwealth. So closely have the teehniques of modern science bound the ends of the earth together that today, more than at any time in the history of mankind, the peoples of the earth may know the daily events of their common histories. This tendency has given to us a greater day to day knowledge of our Queen, and has undoubtedly brought with it a sense of deeper and more personal interest in and loyalty to Her Majesty. This sense will be further deepened when Her Majesty visits our country next year. So it is that in this Coronation period, more than on anv previous occasion, our people have had a more vivid and5 personal realisation of all that is implied in their united and heartfeit prayer of— "God Save the Queen.9' ./
