TOWN BOARD FINANCE

Rates For Current Year At its monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 20th, the Taupo Town Board passed a resolution giving notice of its intention to strike a General Rate and a Hospital Rate for the current financial yeair. Financial estimates for the year had been discussed at a special committee meeting of the Board held on the previous Wednesday. The General Rate is to be one of 41d in the pound, and the Hospital Rate, which is required to meet the levy made upon the Town Board by the Waikato Hospital Board is to be one of |d in the pound. The total amount of the three rates is thus 4-Jd in the pound, and is levied on the unimiproved value.

The rates for the previous financial year were a General rate of 6d, Hospital Rate of ld, and Librar'y Rate of id, a total of in the pound. The rates to be levied for the current year are thus 2|d in the pound less than those levied last year, but owing to the general increase in the Unimproved Valuation of the Town District, shown in the recent revised Valuation Roll, the ireduced rate will bring in a larger amount than last year's rate. The actual amount of rates payable on any given property, as compared with the amount payable last year, will of course depend on the increase, or othervvise, of the present valuation as compared with the old valuation.
