EIGHT CONCRETE SHOPS
NEW MAIN ST. BLOCK Messrs W. L. Atherfold Ltd., of Napiei', have been making good progress with the early stages of the erection of a block of eight eoncrete shops in Tongariro Street for Messrs Taupo Properties Ltd. The new block is situated between the Busy Corner Store (Taupo Stores Ltd.) and Orr's Buildings, opposite the Fost Ofhce. The temporary wooden premises occupied by the Lady Lake Salon, and Mr Ian Logan, • 3 been moved temporarily round the cdrner into Toromatangi Street, opposite Rickit's Hall, and the Garage formerly occupied by Mr A. J. Buckleigh has been demolished. During the past week foundation excavations have been made, and the steel reinforcing for the walls has been erectcd, this having been fabricated and spotwelded in Napier. The corrugated iron building at the back of the secti'on, which was at one time occupied by Mr G. P. Reid's aerated water and cordial factory, has been converted into a convenient temporary bunk-house and 1-iving quarters for the contraetor's construction crew, and bears over the entrance the welcoming legend "The Duck Inn."
