The deepest bore yet drilled in connection with the Geothermal Steam Project at Wairakei was "blown off" on Friday, April 24th, under the supervision of Mr R. McMillan, the engineer in charge of drilling operations. Our picture shows the man-made fumarole roaring from the ten inch pipe some days after the bore had been opened. The bore is 2020 feet deep. Unlike previous bores, no debris was ejected when the bore was blown.
