WAITAHANUI ANGLING
ASSOCIATION'S BULLETIN The March Bulletin issued, by the Waitahanui Angling Improvement As sociation (Inc.) contains some interesting personal references made by the President, Mr O. S. Hintz, in his, annual report, as follows: — "The Dave MacNicol Cup last season was won by one of our most popular members, Mr Peter Gardner, of Kaukapakapa. T'he trophy was preserited to him at a ceremony held early this season — and the cup did not remain empty during the proceedings. When Mr Gardner relinquis'hes the cup before next season — -that is if he does not win it again — he will receive the Bujtler Trophy for 1951-1952. "I cannot close this report without referring to the past services of officers of the Association who have chosen this year to retire. Dr Howard Thomas, one of our two vicepresidents, and Major Harry Edwards, a committee-man, have both given the Association loyal service, and I know you would want me to express appreciation to them on your behalf. "We owe a furtlier debt to Mr Claude Watson for his services as our hon. auditor, and an inestimable debt to Mr Arthur Jacobs for his untiring efforts as hon. secretarytrea surer — a position which he has filled single-handed during Mr Gordon William 's temporary absence from the district. j I can assure you that Mr Jacohs has handled our finances in the most masteiTy fashion. AVe must also acknowledge with the deepest gratitude the help the Association has received from the Logan family, particularly Mrs Ian Logan who so cheerfully allows us to mvade the Lodge for committee meetings and who has proved in so many respects the Association's good angel." Trapping bf Fish. Several members asked for information on the marking of trapped fish during the researeh programme carried out by officers of the Internal Affairs Department. The Presiednt gave an assurance that the whole programme was under the supervision of Mr D. F. Hbhbs, a world authority on trout, who would be the last person to sanction methods wnich would be in any way harmful to the fish. The Presi- ! dent added that he had' assisted in recording details of some of the fish trapped and marked during the winter and saw nothing at all which might be construed as harmful to iish which, in any case, represented ' only a small proportion of the total | run into the Waitahanui River.
