FLOWER BOWL STARTS FIRE

j TAUPO WQMEN'S DISCOVERY i I A Taupo housewife recently had a startling experiehce. She had placect a spherieal shaped f lower bowl of the type in which flowers are pl-aced immersed in water, upon a table preparatory to re-filling it with flowers. The bowl was partially filled with water. On returning to the room some tirne later she was surprised to see stnoke rising from a handkerchief lying on the I table iiear the bowl, and found that 2, Iarge hole had been btirned in it. . The handkerchief was glowing red round the edges of the burn, and the table eovering was already scorched. Sun light entering through an adjjacent cloor had been focussed by the bowl upon the handkerchief, as by a magnifying glass, and thus started the fire. Had the bowl been. filled with flowers it would not doubt not* have been able to act in this way.
