HILL TOP ESTATE SOLD
PLANS FOR FIVE STAR PRIVATE HOTEL * Hill Top, noted Taupo property of the late Mrs E. Milburn, 'has been sold and the purohasers plan to establish a private hotel of full five star standard to cater for the growing Taupo tourist traffic. Mr J. B. Edlin, proprietor of Edgewater Lodge, the well known private hotel on the Lake shore near the junctioh of the Napier Road1 with the Lake Front Road, will manage both Edgewater and the new hotel, which it is expected will be opened about October next. The Hill Top estate was bought by the late Mrs Milburn a number of years prior % the Second World War/ and the large two storied residence, on its commanding eminence overlcoking the Lakfe from above the Waipahihi Avenue area, was built for her by the late Mr Harry Holder. Its windows and balcomes provide splendid views not only of the Lake and mountains to the south, but also over the town of Taupo and the rolling hills to the westward and north beyond Wairakei. It would be difficult to find a fmer site for a tourist hotel. The purchasers plan to provide amenities to fulfill modern tourist requirements, and all bedrooms will have hot and cold running water, individual bedside lights and wai] to wall carpet. Hot mineral water for baths ahd domestic purposes is pumped from a nearby natural spring, and1 the property comprises over forty acres, laid out in lawns, orchard and gardens.
