SPA ROAD AND LAKE FRONT

ALSO, PUBLIC WORKS DEPOT The Taupo Town Board has written to the Main Highways Board foi ccnfirmation of the latter Boardrs proposal to crmmence the re-form-ing of the Spa Road next year preparatory to doing* the actual sealing during next sealing season, which commences about October. The Highways Board had stated ear.lier that it would be impossible, for financial reasons, to do the sealing this season. Confirmation of the arrangement is reauired by the Town Board to enable it to arrange its share of the financial outlay, namely one quarter. The Highways Board has intimated that it would be willing to spread payment of the Town Board's share over two years.

Mr P. Kearins, M.P., has forwarded to the Town Board a letter from the Minister of Works with regard to the Ministry of Works Depot at Taupo. The Minister states that the Department has approached the Lancis and B'urvey Department, to have certain sections on the northern boundary of the town allocated as a new site for the Depot. A substantial item was provided on this year's financial estimates to covei | portion of the cost of moving the Depot, but unfortunately, states the Minister's letter, it was necessary to transfer this amount to more urgent w^orks. However, as soon as the requisite .funds had been made available the Depot would be shifted. Meantime no additional major buildings would be erected on the present site.

Referring to the condition of the Lake front road at Taupo, the Minister's letter advises that it ia intended to effect improvements to | this section of the Taupo-Nationa] ! Park State Highway as soon as possj ible. If the requisite survey work j can be carried out this year it is j hoped that it will be possible, states the Minister, to prov;|de on next year's Main Highways Board's Estimates for portion at least of the Work.
