OPENING DAY ON THE GREEN

TAUPO BOWLING CLUB After the unsettled weather prevailing Taupo bowling enthusiasts were indeed fortunate, on Sunday, November 16th., when the new bowling green was officially opened under ideal conditions. -Mr J. E. -Story, chairman oi the Taupo Town Board congratulated the club on its efforts to provide TaupoT. first full size bowling gTeen of 8 rinks. The speaker in humorous vein, observed that the splendid green had been made available through the consistant efforts of willing people — the few who were willing; to work, and the majority who were willing to iet them! Mr B. M. Armstrong, president of fcht club, welcomed all visitors and friends, and stated that the success of the green, was due in no small measure to a small band of voluntary ' workers, who gavh willingly of their tirne and enegry over a period of two years. He then declared the green open, and called on Mr J. S. | Pennycook, one of the most ardent I workers in preparing the green, to t deliver the first jack, while Mrs I Armstrong delivered the first bowl. j Space does not permit the mention of all helpers, and wellwishers, but special thanks are due to the followjing-:— Mr Coley and his voluntary workers in erecting the splendid club house. Stevens for their handsome trophies donated for club oompetition, and to those gentlemen who gave inonetary donations. The ladies are also to be congratulated on the very tasty fare, provided for refreshment, during the afternoon. The green has been established in quite a picturesque setting, an excellent view of the lake being ob~ tained from the clubhouse. The rinks should prove very popular with local and vjsiting enthusiasts, and the President and his committee trust that it ahall provide many happy hours of good bowling.
