TAUPO TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING Arising out of the monthly meeting of the Taupo Town Board held last week were the following matters of general public interest (the business dealt with was largely concerned with correspondence touching office routine) : — Matters concerning the rehabilitation of the A.C. Baths have now been finalised, and the Board is now awaiting the final approval of the Government Loans Board for the amount involved. Angle parking is to be extended in the lYrain street (Tongariro Street), on both sides, from its junction with the Spa Road at one end, and Roberts Street at the other, and on to the wharf . As from January 1st., 1953, the Town Board will undertake the removal of rubbish, at a charge, if oc~ cupiers of premises are unable to do this themselves. Town Pianning. Tentative plans drawn in accordance with the Town Pianning Authority's requirernents, have been received for the general lay-out of the town district, and also for the Civic Centre in Tongariro Street. The latter makes pr-ovision (for the future), for Government Affairs at the rear of the present Post Office, ' and on the opposite, for extensions to the War Memorial Hall to accommodate Municipal offices. The present thorough running past the Post Office to the Wharf, is to be closed as far as the street intersection at the Old Post Office. Between the War Memorial Hall site and the Post Office will be an open space.. On the outep sides of the Post Office Building and the War Memorial Hall will be drive-ways leading to car parks. These plans are to be. eonsidered at a special meeting of the Town Board to be held at a later date.
Other Matters. The Board has made a donation of £5 to the Wa r Memorial Hall Association, and will provide a decorated vehicle for the carnival. A donation of £1 1/- was also made to the United Nations Chiidrercs Appeal Fund. In connection with the issue of driving license, it has been decided that in future all new applicants un~ der test will be required to pay an extra 5/- in addition to the present fee of 5/-. An application for a taxi operators office was granted subject to the plans and construction being to the satisf action of the Building Inspector. • •• - 1 . i i Present at the meeting was a full attendance: — The Chairman (Mr J.
