POWER AND LIGHT FOR TAUPO

RETICULATION PROGRESISES Outward and visible signs of the coming of electric power and light to Taupo were to be seen in Heuheu iStreet on Saturday morning in the shape of half a dozen power poles erected and another in course of erection. The contractors, Messrs Lysaght and Sullivan are using a mechanical hole digger powered by a tractor, which puts down a six foot hole in a few minutes. The first poles erected were at the Ruapehu Street and Kaimanawa Street ends of Heuheu Street. This first portion of the transmission line in the Town Board area is being run from Tongariro Street via Heuheu Street and Mere Road to the main line in the vicinity of Edgewater Lodge. f All poles in the transmission line from the Power Station to the town boundary are now erected, and nin'ety per cent of the conductor is now strung. The conductor has still to be strung in the Earthquake Gully section. Copper conductor is required here, owing to the length of the spans, and has to be in unbroken lengths over the ^ whole section as a safety measure in view of the fact that the power line crosses over the Telegraph Departments lines in' several places.
