CRICKET IN TAUPO
PROSPECTS FOR THE SEASON By the time this edition went to press the Taupo Cricket Club would, according to plan, have played its first match of the season?. Th^ weather was the crucial factor. Last week-end the team was due to play Reporoa on the Taupo Domain. Another match definitely scheduled is a home game ag-ainst Kaingaroa on November 30th. Other opponents it is hoped to meet ibefore the Christmas interval are National Park, Tokaanu, Tihoi, and one or two Rotorua sides. At the previous week-end a match j had been arranged against Western Bay, but the visitors unfortunately were unable to travel to Taupo, and a net practice was held instead. This practice brought to light severa.1 new players who showed better form with ball than with the bat. There are only five of last season's regular team left.
The batting may have to rely on Collett, Forster, McKean and Acres. and it would seem that the success of the side may largely depend upon whether these and any other new players who may prove capable of making runs can compile sufficient to I give the bowling a #hance to get the opponents out. «*
