TAUPO RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION

A. meeting of the Taupo Ratepayers' Association was held at Mrs Crowther's residence on October 30 th. Tourist Agency. — Several matters of importance were hrought up. Firstly a copy of a letter from Mr Bodkin to Mr Kearins in reply ifco a request by ; the association that a Tourist Agency be gstablished in Taupo. The Department considers that a Tourist Agency is not warranted in our rap-idly-growing town. It was decided to take the matter further, as the Ratepayers Association feels that a Tourist Bureau is very definitely justified in Taupo considering the large number of tourists visiting and passing through Taupo, and the fact that Taupo is no longer in the Juvenile stage.

S ealing of Spa Road. — The Ratepayers Association are enquiring further into this vital matter, and were most disappointed to read in the Taupo Times that the Main Highways Board had seen fit to postpone the paving of this public thorouvhfare for another 12 months. We, as representatives of the ratepavers of Taupo, feel that our Town Board will not accept this answer and will take this matter up further with the neeessary authorities. Children's Playground. — A further sum of £9 10/- has been handed in towards the Children^ Playground, and we understand that several forrns of amusement are wn process of heing constructed. The completion of the fen^e is in hand, and several other donations have been promised. Annual General Meeting. — An Annual General Meeting of Ratepayers is being called for November 26th., and nominations are called for elsewh^re in the paper. Mr Birnie (Chair-man) thanked the committee for their co-operation and the interest they had taken in local, affairs, and gave special thanks to Miss Wehringo for her untiring services (always with a smile), and thanks also to Mrs Kent for her efficient reports on meetings. Fcr the benefit of the public, prej sent members of the Committee are: — J. W. Birnie (Chairman); W. Ftevens, Colonel Barton, Mrs Terry Kent, Messrs R. Sinclair, E. Yates, E. Pearce, G. Sutherland, F. Fletcher, B. Turton, and Miss Wehringo, 3 ecretavy-Treasurer.
