MAIN HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS
Energetic efforts are being made by the contracting firm, Messrs Tayloi & Cully, to have the length of main highway between Hatepe Hill and Hallett's Bay, now under improvement, finished in good time for the | summer traffic. There is a good deal I of work still to be done on the j Hatepe side cf the hill, where sharp turns are being eased round, and the road widening is being done. Mr Tatana, Assistant Road Engineer, stated to a "Times" representative that they hoped to have this I bad stretch ready for sealing in a j month's time. In the meantime | tiraffic at this point is subject to occasional hold ups to enable dislodged spoil from the hillside to be cleared off. Drivers are cautioned to exercise care over this stretch. Further on, to the South, the road surface has been greatly improved by regrading, and when sealed, one i of the less pleasant sections of the main highway between Taupo and Turangi will be easy driving. The bridge over the Kiko Stream between Tauranga - Taupo and | Motuopa will shortly be closed for t'e-building and traffic will use a shallow ford alongside the bridge. The new bridge will take the stream through two fourfoot pipes.
