HATEPE LETTER
Although the road work South of Hatepe is in its concluding stages, motorists will always have to e^ercise extreme care, at this point. The nature of the fine pumice interspersed with boulders, makes this section of the Highway dangeious. We are pleased to note an improvement in the health of Mrs W. Perry, who earlier in the month was an inmate of Rotorua Hospital. Residents have been paying short. visits to their houses, for renovation ourposes. During the month, visitors were: — Dr and Mrs Hill (Wellington) ; Mr W. Perry, Mr D. Couper, Mr Keir (Deputy Mayor of Masterton) ; Mr and Mrs W. Long (Levin); Petersen Eros., and their wives (P.N.), who are erecting a cottage on the Lake front; Mr Christensen (Palmerston North) ; Mr Ladd, Mr G. Gooding, Mr F. Wyatt was expected on Monday, and Dr and Mrs Dean, at the end of the month. During the recent rainy season the river rose with alarming rapidity, and a lorry which had been delivering timher to newly opened sections, up-stream, became bogged. A second lorry was more fortunate. However the next morning saw the lorry out of its difficulties. The high esteem, in which Mr Robert Morehu and family are held, was evidenced by the many letters, and telegrams, expressing sympathy, which came from North Auckland to Southland. We are sure that Mr and Mrs Morehu will bear their sorrow with same dignity, as the honours, which other members the family have won. Miss Haromi and Rereahu Morehu, return to Hukarere College on Wednesday. Miss Awhina Morehu has resumed nursing duties. — S.A.K., Correspondent.
