MR SVENSEN OUTLINES HIS IDEAS • At a meeting of the Taupo Ratepayers5 Association held on July 9, it was agreed that the association should support Mr Mervyn Svensen in his coheme to establish an Information Bureau, and that he be asked to attend the next meeting of the Committee of the Association to consider ways and means of promoting such a service. in a subsequent interview with the "Times," Mr Svensen elaborated his pi'oposal in the following statement: "At the end of May,55 he said, "I circulated all the businesses in the Taupo Country with a view to ob~ taining ideas and possibly financial assistance. The motion moved by the Ratepayers5 Association was the first real eneouragement that resulted from some 126 circulars. "I propose to cbllect and collate all the information possible on accomodation, tarilfs, sightseeing, time tables and general information. This entails a lot of work and certain finaneia.l expenditure. Unless something turns up I propose to go on with the project. This Christmas the Bureau will be working in a small way.55 Mr Svensen went on to explain that people coming to Taupo would be visited by direction signs to call at the Bureau and to use it as a public service provided for the purpose of assisting arrivals to find aecommodation suited to their tastes and requirements, facilitating their boliday plans* and other arrangements, ancl by folders and other forms of Guide literature, enhance their interest in the historical background, and scenic assets of the Taupo Country.
