TUWHARE TOA TRUST BOARD The Tuwharetoa Trust Board held a general meeting, commencing on July 9, at Tokaanu, and finishing on the 11th. Mr W. Te Tuiri, chairman, presided. Members present were: Messrs T. Arthur Grace, of Taupo, Awhi Northcroft, of Waitahanui, Turau Te Tomo of Mokai, H. H. Rihia of Turangi, Mr R. R. Eeepa, of Kakahi, and Mr P. Alfred Grace, secretary. The main business of the meeting was to go into the estimates for the year ending March 31, 1953. The board considered various applications for financial assistance. Education and medical matters received prior attention for the current year. These wi-11 use up the greater portion of this years revenue. A letter was received from the St. John Ambulance Association, Taupo, asking if the board could assist in meeting certain accounts owing by Maoris of the district. The board decided to assist. A report from the Department of Internal Affairs was received with satisfaction. The Taupo Water Trout-fishing had been attracting more anglers. The figures given showed that in the year ended March 31, 1950 the sale of fishing licenses was £5,338 the year ended March 31, 1951 £5,715; and during March 31, 1952 £6,513, which reveals a very satisfactory state, to the Government, pakehas, and the Tuwharetoa Maori people. The board receives a revenue of £3,000 a year from the Government, plus lialf of any license fees in excess of that amount, which the board, under its Statutory powers, administers for the benefit of the Tuwharetoa tribe as a whole. The board has also undertaken to assist the Government, through the Department of Internal Affairs, to improve the access to the various fishing waters in the Taupo Waters area.
