TAUPO TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Taupo Town Board on Wednesday last, July 16, there were present: — The Chairman (Mr J. E. Story), and the following members: Miss K. 0. Lewis, and Messrs J. D. Swan, C. T. Vedder, W. G. Morris, and K. E. Vounsr. An apology for absence was received from Mr Irvine. Rabbits. In a letter from the Department of Agriculture the Board was asked for its views on the establishment cf a Rabbit District in portion of Taupo Country. It was decided that Mr K. E. Young and the Town Olerk (Mr Torepe), should go into the question and report to the next meeting of the Board. !' Generating Plant iLicenses. The State Hydro-Electric Department asked if the Board would confirm a license being granted to Mrs Hurst and Mr Stewart for a generating^plant, subject to certain cond!tions. The Board agreed, with the reservation that the license would be subject to cancellation when the supply of power to the public became available. It was further decided that no licerises would be issued to local electricians for installing such plants in future unless with the approval of the Board. A. C. Baths. A letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs confirmed the Government Grant-in-aid for the reeonstruction of the A. C. Bath. On receipt of the plans and specifications the board will call for tenders for the work. Mill Dumps The Taupo Sawmillers' Associa-tio-n submitted proposals for the dumping of slabs and sawdustfrom the mills. The Board concurred, and decided to carry the matter further in negotiations with the Crown Lands Department on the question of a site beyond the town limits. Building Permits In tbe lijght of evidence that the strid letter of the regulations conr^erning building permits was being treated with laxity, the Board resolved to publish in the Tauno Times a note that the Building Bylaws would be strictly enforced vihere buildings are being erected first obtaining a permit and paying the fee. #
Mr G. Crickett was appointed building inspector on a commission Hasis, the arrangement to be subiect to one month's notice of termination by either sides.
Traffic Lines The Board decided to approach tbe resident Ehgineer, Rotorua with re^-ard to the marking of the centre white traffic line in Tongariro Street in order that the marking of the angle parking lines may be proceeded with. Rugby Sub-Union In reply to recent decisions by the Board on the subject of entrance fees to the Domain football ground, the Taupo Rugby Sub-XJnion wrote that it would be a matter of considerable difficulty to devise a system that would ensure payment by everyone entering the field to witness a game. The amroaches w^re :oo many and too easily penetrated. The Board decided to write rep^^sentatives of the Rugby SubUnion to meet tbe Board in con-fer-ence to discuss the problem. This matter was dealt with by the Board "n its official capacity as the Taupo Domain Board. New Picnic Grounds and Motor j Park Of conslderable interest to motorists and picnic parties is the development represented in an invitation from the Gomimisdioner of Crown Lands to the effect that section 40,
block VI, Tauhara Survey District is in prbcess of being handed over to the Taupo Domain Board. This area is situated between the properties of Messrs Laidlaw and C. B. Smith, in the vicinity of Rainbow Point, and it is thanks to the good offices of the Commissioner of Crown Lands that it is to be made available as a public amenity for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors. Works Committee
The Chairman of Works (Mr J. E. Story), reported as follows: Culverts- — Culverts have been placed in the following Street intersections, Oruanui and Spa Roads, Motutaiki and Paorahape (Streets, Roberts & Titiraupenga Street, Mere Road and Lake Terrace, and across the Main Highway. Culvert pipes for the main highway were stipplied by the Ministry of Works. Culverts have been replaced at the intersection of Gasgoine and Tamamutu Streets. Several other culverts and drains have been given attention. Owing to conthiuous rain most work for the month has been on the roads. Visibility has been improved on the following corners: — Oruanui, Runanga, Ruapehu, Taniwha and Titiraupenga Streets, also Gillies Ave., Rifle Range corner. A large macrocarpa tree in Horomatangi Street has been felled by the contractor, the best of the timber going into posts and the remainder into firewood.
