BETROTHAL PARTY
Mr and Mrs E. T. Smith entertained just over 40 guests at their new home in Taupo last Saturday evening to celebrate the engagement of their cnly daughter Joy to Bruce, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E. V. Howard wel known residents of Taradale, Hawkes Bay. Mrs Smith received her guests in a cliarming gown of black and silver taffeta, with her daughter Joy, who iuoked very charming in a gown of grey nylon with a shoulder spray of earnations and lily of the valley. The evening was enlivened with numerous musical items contributed by a talented pianist, Mrs W. Andlerson, Miss Joe iSmith (vocal), Messrs B. Howard and M. HowelJ (piano-accordians), and Mr J. Pennycook (recitation and aecordian solo). 'Mr C. Brown of the Hotel Wairakei, in an appropriate speech, thanked Mr and Mrs Smith for their very cordial hospitality, and wished the young couple every success in the future. A very dainty savory supper was greatly enjoyed by all. Apologies were received from Mr and Mrs E. V. Howard, who were unable to stay, and returned to Taradale late in the afternoon. Among those present were: — Mr and Mrs €. McLean, Mr and Mrs W. Anderson, Mr and Mrs C. Brown, Mrs A. Thomas, Mrs A. Grey, Mr and Mrs J. Schultz, Mr and Mrs K. Smith, Mr and Mrs J. McDonald, Mrs G. Lishman, Mr and Mr,s W. Orr, Mr and Mrs T. Wall, Mr N. George, Mr M. Kunac, Mr A. Reid, Mr J. Pennycock, and from Taradale, Miss Ethne Howard, Miss Natalie Howard, Mr Garnett Woods, Mr R. Strachan, Mr M. Howell and Mr W. Howard.
