QUESTION FOR ANGLERS
New Fishing Ground at Hatepe Fishermen may be expected to take keen interest in the development of the Taupo hydro electric scheme on the Hinernaiaia River when they realise that the lake which will be formed, is likely to provide them with a large new area for their sport. The upper reaches of the river provide an ideal spawning ground for crout as the fish can breed with little fear of being disturbed. The "Times" has reason to believp that it will not be long before the waters of the new lake provide splendid sport for the angler. Reference to the photograph on this page shows the large area of manuka and scrub which covers what will eventually, be the lake bed on the far side of the spillway. Care should be taken to see there is no repetition of the mistake that was made at Arapuni, where j anglers constantly coinplain of the loss of equipment through lines being caught in snags on the lake bottom. It is debatable if it could be considered the responsibility of the authorities to take care of this important matter, but, no doubt, they will be willing to co-operate in any movement to provide the best possible conditions for anglers in the future. The first move, however, should come from anglers themselves, and in the end it may be found necessaty to organise a large "working bee" on the the site shortly before the flooding of the lake in ordfr to ensure the best possible conditions for anglers.
