TURANGI NEWS

Shooting and Fishing Lovers of sport have been well catered for in the last two weeks. The shooting season opened exceptionally well and birds were plentiful. Among those who obtained limit bags on the opening morning were Messrs H. Cramer-Roberts, W. Jones, H. G. Nicholas, P. and Mrs P. Nicholag, and J. W. Durwara. S'hooting has been patchy since, although those who are prepared to go into the swamps are assured of some shooting. With the Anglers The Tongariro has been fishing exceptionally well and many anglers have taken limit bags of excellent

fresh-run fish. During the last two or three days the fishing has eased slightly, but good fish are still being taken. Many local anglers have been fishing the Tauranga-Taupo and Mr Ken Fraser has been most successful, obtaining four limit catches in four successive days. Both the Tongariro and the Tauranga-Taupo are very low and clear and a good rain before the end of the season would be welcome. Taylor's Fishing Lodge and the Bridge Lodge are fully booked until the end of the fishing season, while the Hatchery Camp and the Hut Camp have their full quota. Several visitors to the former camp have said there is a great need there for a common room or a lounge where anglers — and their wives — could meet in the evenings and enjoy some social ; amenities.
