MAORI SCHOLARS SUCCESS
Honour To Taupo It may be of some interest to the local schools in the Taupo Country to know that ex-pupils of some of these schools hold honoured positions in two of the leading Maori colleges — Te Aute Boys' College, Pukehou, and Hukarere Girls' College, Napier There are at present five from this district who are prefects at these colleges: — Paerau Maniapoto, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tai Maniapoto of Waitahanui and ex-pupil of the Waitahanui Maori School; Haromi Morehu, of Te Hatepe, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Morehu and ex-pupil of the i Tauranga-Taupo Maori School; Ange- 1 lina Ham of Korohe, daughter of Mr ( and Mrs Bill Ham, and ex-pupil of the Tauranga-Taupo Maori School; Miss " Paerata of Mokai, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Paerata and ex-pupil of the Mokai Maori School; Huriwaha Maniapoto, third son of Mr and Mrs Herna Manipoto, ex-pupil of the Tau-ranga-Taupo School, now acting pret'ect of Te Aute College, and who with His cousin, Miss Paerau Manipoto, were granted special leave to be present on his two elder brother's final leave. These latter two were also both educated at Te Aute College, The achievement of these positions by thbse five scholars from one district is quite unique, especially when three of them are ex-pupils of the one school, and credit is due to them, and also to the headmasters of the above schools. It is hoped that they will turn out to be good and useful members of the Maori race, and work for the betterment of their people.
