TAUPO REVISITED
MR. MOSSMAN'S IMPRESSION^ A recent visitor to Taupo was Mr H. A. Mossman, a retired businessman ,of Hastings, who was accompanied by his two daughters, the Misses Elizabeth and Mary Mossman. Mi Mossman made frequent visits to Taupo in the early days and is amazed by the development and sign of progress in evidence today. Recalling his impressions of earlier visits, he remembers such pioneer workers as Messrs Henry Hill, Crowther, Anderson, Gradwell and others. Then, sections could be bought and sold in what is to-day, and v/^as then, the "picked localities" for view and convenience, at anything from £12 10/- to £50. "The owners of thes'e sections,,, he added, "could now get any price they cared to mention. Speaking from long experience in real estate, especially in the Hawkes Bay area, Mr Mossman said that with the marked steadying down generally, the efforts rnight be temporarily reflected in Taupo, but the potentialities of the area were so great, and the assets so valuable, that he could foresee an impressive wave of further developement ahead. "For a holiday resort, or for retired folk," he said, "it would be difficult to find anything better than the Taupo district. The Town Board is to be congratulated on their present activities. With electric light and a better water supply in view things should be more perfect than they are to-day." He added his congratulations on the enterprise and energy shown in the establishment of "a most readable weekly paper," and as a subscriber, wished it every possible success.
