HATEPE LETTER

— February 22. Dr Harman, general manager for the Colonial Sugar Refinery, Sydney, his wife, and his secretary, Mr Whenn, visited Hatepe, last weekend, and were the guests of Mr and Mrs Bently, Mt. Roskill, Auckland, who were spending a holiday in Hatepe. Mrs Bently is a sister of Dr Harman. Dr Harman remarked on the size of our trout, as compared with the Australian fish, which average one or two pounds. * * * During the week fishing has improved, many anglers catching the limit. Ccndition and average weight is also increasing. This week M. G. Krivan caught an 8i lb. fish This was eclipsed by Mr Burridge, of Rotorua, who Janded a beautiful 101 Ibs. trout. Seven pounders and over wore plentiful. Mr Krivan is weighing and measuring fish, in conjunction with the research work carried out by Mr P. Burstall, and appreciates the cocperation of anglers in this matter, which ultimately will be in their own interest. * * * Mrs Dean and Mrs Jamieson, of Palmerston North are in residence at Hatepe, Mrs Dean returns to her home at the week-end. She is returning to Hatepe on Tuesday next, with her husband Dr. Kenrick Dean, for a rest period of three weeks. rjt Dr R. McKenzie Gunn has returned to Gisborne, after a month's vacation, spent with Mrs Gunn and friends at Hatepe. * * * Welcome visitors to the Lake-side this week were Mr and Mrs McNab of Hamilton. Mr McNab is a well known* successful angler, who sold his holiday house two years ago to Mr Justice North. It is reported that a nurnber of houses will be built before next season commences. * ^ ^ Mr R. Morehu is to be congratulated on his enterprise in opening up this attractive Tblock of land. The success of this venture is in no small way due to the popularity of Mr and Mrs Morehu, who are untiring in their efforts to make their tenants happy. ? # & * Mr and Mrs D. Ross, ofPalmerston North, have returned to their home.
