TAUPO DEFEATS TOKAANU

The Tokaanu team arrived at Taupo last week with a great fanfare on their car horns to make up for their disappointment in having to leave behind two of their best players, the Indian hrothers Kanji and Bhikka, who were welcoming home from India a third brother who will later , - add strength to their team. Batting first, Tokaanu opened with Walker and Weti, who played Loughlin and Strange steadily in their opening overs. Weti, a left hander was first to leave, having his leg stump unearthed by a splendid ball from Loughlin. This bowler, who finished the first innings at Tokaanu earlier in the season with the -sensational analysis of nine wickets for nine runs, was not so devastating on the easier Taupo wicket, but he bowled well nevertheless. Smallman and Simon Warren, both helped Walker to take the score along, the latter hugely enjoying himself in the process. Wheri he had scored thirteen, however, he failed to reach his ground in trying to take a quick single. Walker was caught off Forester, the slow bowler for 26, and the remainder of the team did not last long, the only incident of note being a long low pull for six by Stone, who was on loan to the visitors for the occasion. Patchett's * three wickets at the end of the innings cost him only nine runs and the Tokaanu innings closed for 71. When Taupo batted, Forster and Patchett opened with 53 for the first wicket and 12 runs later Forster retired for a steady 35. Loughlin and Collett put on 42 for the third wicket. The remaining batsmen jhifi out and either got out or retired and the innings ended with the total at 162. Walker and Sutherland did nearly all the bowling for Tokaanu, the former taking three out of the five wickets which fell. Tokaanu did not take their second innings very seriously, Walker again being top scorer this time with 22 to his credit. Thompson with 16 was the only one to give him appreciable assistance. The innings closed for 51 leaving Taupo the winners by an innings and 40 runs. \ The Score Tokaanu, 1st. innings:— R.
