Two well known school-teaching families on ske lake side will be united as the result of an engagement recently announced between Peter Calder Durward, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Durward of the Schooihouse Turangi and Lois Spencer, only daughter of Mr and Mrs L. V. Spencer of Tauranga-Taupo. Peter Durward is relieving house surgeon at the Wellington Plospital and his fiancee has recently taken i up appointment as teacher to the children at Silverstream Hospital. * * * Mr Justice Tyndall and Mrs Tyndall have returned to Wellington after spending a month at the Bridge Lodge, Turangi. * * * Mr A. R. Cutler, V.C., Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand, was able to spare a few days from his duties to try out the fishing at the southern end of the lake. He has also been staying at Bridge Lodge. * * * Guests expected to visit Turangi during the month of February include 'Sir Edward and Lady Parry, Admiral Hickling, and Sir William Polson. ^ He * At the conclusion of the cricket match between the Taupo Golf Club and the cricket club, several cricket club members and wives were entertained by the golf club in their club house. Among the ladies present were Mesdames A. J. Collett, H. Peart, J. Loughlin, L. Cheal, K. Young, J. Woodward, A. Graham and Miss J. Branson. He He Miss Judith Durward recently passed the University Entrance examination and has left for Wellington to take up work in the office of the Public Service Commission. He He He Dr and Mrs Howard Thomas have returned from a holiday spent in Auckland. He He He Mr Franillin Reid has volunteered for K. Force, and will shortly enter ea mu at Papakura. ❖ He He Mr and Mrs F. W. Gilligan and Mr John Gilligan have returned to Wanganui from their summer vacation at Taupo. He He He Mr and Mrs T. Coley and family have left for a^month's holiday in the Bay of Plenty. H: He He Mrs R. B. Clark, of Ngawha Springs, who has been staying with her sfep-daughter, Mrs Tierney, left Taupo last Wednesday, to visit relatives in Napier and Christchurch. He He He Mrs Arthur Stott, who has been on a visit to Nelson and Wellington, returned to Taupo last week. As a. result of imfavourable weather con ditions. tobacco-growers in the Nelson district, she says, have had a disappointing seasqn. % He He Mrs B. Grace and her daughter, of Auckland, have been holidaying with Mrs Ericson.
