CULTURE IN TAUPO
COMMUNITY ARTS SERVICE Reporting on the Community Arts Service formed in Taupo in September last, Miss Erica Hoby states that under its auspices two very successful performances were given in Ricket's Hall. In October two plays were brought on tour from Auckland, and were enthusiastically received by a paeked house. In November a concert was given by three well-known artists, who delighted the audience with their playing and singing. "The outlook for 1952 is very promising," says Miss Hoby. "The season is to begin with The Merehant. of Venice" with Brian Brimer playing Shylock. Two modern plays i are to come later in the year and possibly a ballett if it can be arranged. Also Richard Farrell will be in New Zealand and we hear he may gc on tour for the C.A.S. including some towns such as Taupo. "It will be seen from this what a splendid work the Comunity Arts Service is doing in bringing to the country towns the best that can be produced in the way of plays and concerts."
