Butter and Cheese Market

Messrs E. Griffiths and Co , are in receipt of the following market report from their London Principals, Mills and Sparrow, dated October 29th., 1909. Since our last report we have had a very much lower temperature, and heavy rains have been experienced all over the country, in fact the weather has been all against any improvement in trade. Danish. —The Danes had got the quotation rather too high, and found it pecessary this week to reduce it by 4 kroner.

Dish. —Tfyp sqpply is very small, and is now not sufficient to make itself felt. French. —The supply keeps UP wonderfully well fop the time of the year, and as prices are reasonable buyers are continuing to keep orders on. •Siberian, — A.rivals this week are rather smaller than last amounting to about 6,000 casks, and we expect from now onwards that we shall see a further decrease. There has been a fair demand for the best quality butters which show good value alongside other sorts. Australian.—The s.s. “Morea” was well up to time, and some of her butters were on the market Monday last. The s.s. “ Afric ” and s.s. “ Somerset ” also discharged the : r cargo this week. The r al ly speaking, has been yery disappointing there being quite a numb,er of buyers \yJio not yet ready to start, and a reduction of 2s and 4s cn last week’s quotations has beep necessary jn order to introduce the goods. The quality of the butter is very good but the colour is rather 100 deep for a number of buyers, especially is this the case with the Northern districts which prefer a paler colour. However, it is far better to get prices on a reasonable scale so that a good swinging trade will be running when the larger quantities arrive a little later on. We have no doubt that in a week or two’s time the number of buyers for Colonial butter Wilf be very considerable, and t'hat trade wifi be of a satisfactory nature', T ,l(ire is hardly any sale at all for stored butters at the moment. New Zealand. —There has been no fprtbcp arrival and the 8 8* Puparoa is the next steamer, dpe qn the oth biV vember. The stored butters on hand •'ill remain almost unsaleable. Argentine,—The first anival of new season’s butters came to hand this week, and met with a good demand, as they consisted chiefly of un«a’ted, an(l the colour of the butter is paler than the Australian.
