Elstow School Picnic
The annual picnic of the Elstow school was held at Mr J. Mellon’s farm last Friday and proved in every" way most successful. The weather was all that could be desired. A special featuro of the day’s entertainment was the performance of the maypole daneo by the school girls. Miss Hardy, their teacher, deserves great credit for the effort she has made to provide the holiday- makers with suck an interesting and pretty item. After lunch was over the prizes were awarded to the pupils by thoir teacher, and after this pleasing part of the programme, Mr J. Neve, on behalf of tho Committee and friends, expressed the thanks and appreciation of all for the diligence Miss Hardy had shown in school work, and for tho help she had so readily given outside of school work ; he wished her God speed in her departure from the district Miss Hardy in a few words feelingly replied, thankiug all for their kind expressions, aud intimating that it would always be her aim to do her best for tho children wherever she went. Mr Neve then thanked Mr Mellon for the use of the grounds, and this was unanimously approved in three hearty cheers for that esteemed gentleman. Games were then played until tea time, After tea, games again until the sun sunk very low iu the west, and so concluded a mo3t enjoyable and profitable day.
