Sir Robert Hart, who controlled thd Chinese Maritime Customs Depart* meat for 50 years and who resigned last year, is returning to China, where he will temporarily resume the Inspector-Generalship of Customs in order to readjust local difficulties which caused some British merchants to oppose the appointment of his successor, Dir Robert Bredon, who for 10 years was Deputy-General of Customs m China, and who has been connected with the Department since 10/o.
