London, November 4. The National Council of Free Churches, in a letter to Mr Asquith, expressed themselves as disheartened, and bitterly disappointed over the education question, and asked assurance of his intention in the present or next Parliament if he is returned to power to carry on the matter with a yet more determined effort, and to a decisive conclusion at any sacrifice of political convenience. Mr Asquith replied in most sympathetic terms, and blamed the House of Lords’ action in the first session. He pronounced himself emphatically against allowing the present injustices and limitations and absence of popular control to continue to deface the educational system.
