Batter and Cheese Market.

Messrs E. Griffiths and Company are in receipt of the following market report from their London Principals, Mills and Sparrow, dated 13th August, 1909.

Butter Market Report.—The improvement in the weather has continued, and we have had a week of most brilliant sunshine, which has had a very beneficial effect all over the country. Danish.—Quotations unchanged, but the market remains firm, and we should not be surprised to see a change next week. Siberian.—Arrivals this week are about 6.000 less than last, and total in all 18,000 casks, and we anticipate that the supply next week will be short of this quantity. There has been a good all round trade, and some buyers have at last start 3d putting a few butters into store, the market has been well cleared, and can be said to be in a healthy condition.

French.—The supply keeps up wonderfully well, but the hot weather that is now being experienced will have the effect of reducing the quantity of best butter, and it is therefore probable that we shall see higher prices shortly on the better grades. Irish.—Here also the supply continues on a fairly good scale, but must shortly show a decline. The demand continues good, and higher prices are now being made for finest quality.

Australian and New Zealand.—The s.s. “ Pericles ” arrived this week, but her butters are not being marketed at present. W e think t his is a wise course as they will undoubtedly be worth more money a little later. There is little doing in Colonial butter just at the moment.

Cheese.—New Zealand—There axe still a few offering. Canadian.—Trade has been very quiet, but quotations are about the same.
