Inspection of Mines by Shareholders.
As this question is a matter of wide interest, we give hereunder the portions of the Mining Act bearing upon it, namely : Sec. 274 ;(1).—“ Any person owning any share or interest in any mine, or in any company owning or working any mine, rhall be entitled at any time between the hours of noon and 1 o’clock in the afemoon of any working-day to enter such mine, with or without an expert, and to inspect the same and all the workings acd mining operations therein, and for such purpose the said person and expert shall have at all times free ingrpss, egress, and regress in respect of sudi mine.”
(2). —"Every manager of a mine, or director or manager of any company as aforesaid commits an offence if in any way directly or indirectly he prevents, obstructs, or delays any person or expert as aforesaid from exercising the rights conferred upon him by this section. Sec. 275.—" Every person who in any way contravenes or fails to duly comply with any of the provisions of this part of this Act commits an offence and is liable. .. ( a ) —To a fine not exceeding £SO if he is convicted in the capacity of owner of ftny mine, mine manager, or underground manager, battery superintendent, or person in charge of or giving orders or directions relating to the carrying on of any mining operations in any mine, and t're burden of proving that he does not hold that capacity shall rest upon him ; and (b) to a fine not exceeding £lO if he is convicted in any other capacity than as aforesaid.”
