Morrinsville Town Board.
MONTHLY MEETING. 1 —— The ordinary monthly meeting of the Town Board was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. Pros' nt: Messrs H. J. Clifford, J. M. Clifford, C. Manuel, F. J. Marshall, S. Parlour, and W. C; Picket. The Clerk apologised for the absence of the Chairman, and Mr C. Manuel was voted to the chair. Minutes of previous meeting read aud 1 confirmed. Plans and report of drainage scheme was renewed, and Mr Sims was also in attendance, and fully explained the amount of work to be undertaken with money available, the plans being so drawn up as to to the work being able to be done as money is available. Discussion , took place as to the suitability of the scheu'e for , sanitary purposes. The engineer explained that the Health ! Department would not allow sewage to be drained into open drains until it was properly treated. It was decided that the plans and specifications be accepted, and that the engineer be empowered to call tenders for the work, and he was instructed to advertise same in the Waikato Argus, Morrinßville Herald, and Auckland Herald. A special meeting to be held on Monday Bth March to deal with the tenders. Mr Sims stated he would forward the levels for the streets most urgently required in connection with the gravelling works as soon as possible. The Chair- , man thanked Mr Sims for his attendance. 1 In reply Mr Sims said he hoped the scheme would prove beneficial to the town, and thanked the Board for their reception. He then withdrew returning to Hamilton by the night train. Ordinary business was then resumed. Outward correspondence approved. Inward correspondence dealt with as follows : \ . Letter from Mr J U. Allen requesting the Council toimeet him in connection with trees overhanging the footpath. Decided that Mr Allen be again requested to trim the taees mentioned. Letter from various Clerks of Local Bodies stating no pouud notices were available.—Clerk was instructed to have the required notice painted and erected, sheet iron to be used. The Clerk of the Piako County Council wrote stating that the Board’s request for gravel was granted at threepence per yd’ —Received. The Frankton T wn Board wrote asking for assistance in having the Government Departmental Buildings erected at Frankton instead of Hamilton.—Decided that the matter stand over for further inquiries. The Secretary of the Morrinsville Volunteer Fire Brigade wrote asking for the Board’s support, in the way of an annual grant and a shed to store the anpliances in. Deferred until next meeting. The Clerk reported that Mr Wetermeyer had again presented a petition to the Chairman asking for a poll on rating on unimproved values, and that the Chairman was taking the neess iay steps t > have same carried out. The foreman reported on works carried out and others contemplated.—Received. The Clerk was again instructed to write to the Minister of Finance for a reply, re the Board’s request for a loan for Iroad work as they wished to . ceed with the work. original list. It was a great hardship country subscribers who might want to order trucks or find out when their manure or stock had arrived. The Clerk was instructed to write a strong letter to the Traffic Manager, asking for it to be remedied.
Mr Manuel spoke of the advisability of holding a meeting of the works committee at lead om e in three months, the first meeting to be held on Bth March. A icsolution to that effect was carried.
Decided that a charge of ten per cent bo made on all rates not paid before the 7th March, £6O being still outstanding. The Foreman was instructed to sec that occupiers removed hedge trimmings and other lubbish from the drains.
