Own Correspondent. The funeral of Mr Hewitt’s infant son took place at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon. The coffin was covered with floral
emblems, the tokens of sympathy being numerous and beautiful. The Rev Cleary conducted the burial service.
The body of the late James Craig was also interred in the local cemetery, a good number being present to pay the last tribute of respect. The Eev Cleary conducted the service at the grave in a most impressive manner, and at the conclusion expressed the thanks of the relatives for the kindly spirit shown by those present. The geuerous showers which have fallen during the past few days was much needed Sunday last was the second anniversary of the local Methodist Suuday School, and was the occasion of special services, Eev Dukes being the preacher both morning and evening to large congregations. A feature of the services was the splendid singing 'ey the choir, mostly composed of children under the conductorsbip of Mr H. II Turnbull, Mrs Turnbull presiding at the orsran. Special hymns were printed on leaflets for the occasion, and the Church was neatly decorated Mr Turnbull sang a solo very pleasingly at the evening service, The collections for the day were in aid of the Sunday School funds. The return match, Kiwitahi v Morrinsville, eventuated on the local courts on Saturday. This time Morrinsville prov'ng the winners by the same margin of points that Kiwitahi won by before, viz., 9, the scores being Morrinsville 48, Kiwitahi 139. Afternoon tea was provided by the local ladies, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The telephone bells are now busily ringing, the exchange being opened on Friday last, and should prove of great convenience ti subscribers The Committee in charge of the Methodist Sunday School picnic have the arrangements well in hand. Conveyances leave at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday for Mr Woodley’s farm, and again at 2.30 for the convenience of business people who cannot get away earlier. A pleasant day’s outing should result.
